Botanic Gardens Show

There was a very nice turn out at the reception for the  Art in the Garden show at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens. There were over forty pieces of art on exhibit. Lots of food, wine and fine art. What a great opportunity to do some networking, meet some very talented artists and get some great feedback on my piece “Zebra Longwing and Penta”. Next up GAP Show in October.

Zebra Longwings and Penta – Signed Print

I just delivered “Zebra Longwing and Penta” to the Art in the Garden Show at the Botanical Gardens in Fort Worth, hosted by the Fort Worth Garden Club. All Artwork was juried in and will be exhibited in the halls of the Garden Center. There will be over 30 different artists displaying oils, acrylics, watercolors, sculpture, photography and jewelry. Looking for something to do this weekend? What better way to spend your time than viewing some great art!

Saturday, Sept. 11th 8:00 am – 8:00 pm, with Gallery Night Reception from 5 until 8, there will be music, wine, food and the Peoples Choice Award will be announced.

Zebra Longwing and Penta

I have been so busy working on the Exhibit for the Texas Discovery Gardens Gallery, at Fair Park. There are so many things to do, few of which involve painting. I have been working on registering my work on www.fineartregistry.com. What a great site; by using the FAR unique tamper evident tags , I can register each piece of my work that I have created. It gives me a permanent record, complete with photos, full description and tag number in the FAR official, secure database where it will remain forever. When I sell my work I can then carry out an online transfer of ownership of the piece. It has truly been a valuable tool for me as an artist. I have also been working on finishing up a painting, “Zebra Longwing and Penta”, getting prints, cards, etc. made for the gift shop. Putting together emails etc., etc. Lots to do, but what a great opportunity and a true blessing. Hope all can make it March 26, 2010 from 6:00pm til 8:00pm for the opening reception, the exhibit will be hanging from March 22 until July 31. Well back to work. Zebra Longwing and Jatropha

I have almost finished my piece “Zebra Longwing and Jatropha”. This is the piece I am doing for the Organic in the City event for Texas Discovery Gardens. I was able to get pictures of the Zebra Longwing and the Jatropha plant on one of my visits to the Butterfly House and Gardens at Texas Discovery Gardens. The Zebra Longwing is the mascot butterfly for Texas Discovery Gardens. It is actually a poisonous species due to the host plant it feeds on, they advertise this with their brilliant black and yellow- white markings. Slow but dignified, the Zebra Longwing is a weak flier. Long antennae and a slender body are typical of these butterflies, which are at home in the tropics, but can sometimes be found as far north as Kansas. According to Wikipedia, Jatropha is a genus of approximately 175 succulent plants, shrubs and trees, from the family Euphorbiaceae. The name is derived from (Greek iatros = physician and trophe = nutrition), hence the common name physic nut. Jatropha is native to Central America and has become naturalized in many tropical and subtropical areas, including India, Africa, and North America. As with many members of the family Euphorbiaceae, Jatropha contains compounds that are highly toxic. Below is a glimpse into the work in progress:
