What fun we have been having in our watercolor classes the last couple of Sundays. These ladies can paint, no matter what they say. We have been spending a lot of time on flowers, they are just so beautiful in my front and side yard. Cone flowers, sunflowers, day lilies, zinnias oh my! We also created an eight pane window using complimentary colors, turning cone flowers into sunflowers. We didn’t quit finish, but what a great start.
In my last watercolor class, we tackled one and two point perspective, throwing in a little on cast shadows and complementary colors. Everyone did a really great job and each created some very great illusions of three dimensional objects on a very one dimensional piece of paper. Looking forward to next Sundays class.
Sunday’s watercolor class was all about painting pansies. A fantastic subject to practice the wet into wet technique with watercolors. The ladies did great, despite the challenges this lesson presented. Although they did not finish their pieces, what they completed, looked great!
My Sunday watercolor class did a fantastic job creating these beautiful dandelion seed heads. They learned three new techniques, art masking, salt, and splatter, then using their watercolors they were able to create some really great compositions. Not the easiest thing to tackle for beginning watercolor artist, but I think they handled it like pros. I just finished up a watercolor of one of Karen’s miniature horses, Doc. It was really fun painting this guy, with his cockeyed halter and soft black eyes. The last couple of weeks, I have been in a watercolor state of mind. For whatever reason I decided I would pick up my watercolor brush as apposed to my acrylic brush. Mixing up the creative stream, keeps it moving. I have always loved watercolors, several years back, it was all I painted in. Now I enjoy both acrylics and watercolors, and sometimes I like to throw in a little collage and mixed media. Actually what got me started was my “absolutely the most handsome” grandson in the world, Finley. Several weeks ago, Katie put on his first pair of blue jeans and tennies. He looked so cute in those very “in style patched” blue jeans with dark blue tennies; so cute in fact that I had to paint the blue jeans and tennis shoes. As he was laying in my lap sleeping, I did what all crazy NeNe’s do and took several pictures with my iphone. As I was taking Finley’s picture, not only did my ever so handsome Finley capture my attention, but those cute little jeans and tennies also captivated me; born “Forever in Blue Jeans”.
Gracie
I have three dogs, Sigh my Wiemar; Berney and Gracie my two Yorkies, I absolutely love, love, love them. Dogs are just precious, these three love me unconditionally, they hang out with me in my office and my studio, just wanting to be where I am. They provide so much comfort and understanding, without so much as a single word. These three are so highly prized in my life; here is a sketch of Sigh and one of Berney, I did both a few years back in watercolors and last night I did a little sketch of Gracie as she laid in my lap. I really need some help on my lettering, but drawing her in the position she was in, was hard, but I had a great time trying to get it right. I used graphite, colored pencils and felt tips on her sketch.
