The Painted Lady

The Painted Lady

What a fantastic run. I can not say enough thank you’s to the Gallery at the Discovery Gardens in Fair Park for asking me to exhibit my Paintings at the Discovery Gallery. It was a perfect venue for my pieces; I feel so blessed to have had so many people enjoy my work. It was a very successful show, however bitter sweet to see a few of my pieces go to their new homes. I hope each of those pieces will bring many smiles to their new owners. The following is a portion of an email I received from the folks that made “The Painted Lady” and “Zinnias” theirs:

“we couldn’t leave without not only the Painted Lady ( that I was hoping for) but also the Zinnias .  They are now making us smile in my favorite room in the house, my sun room.  They are perfect.. fit, subject, style, artistry, and soul.   My husband even said,  given what you wrote about why you paint , that purchasing them and sharing them with our family and friends is an act of worship.  I wanted you to know that they are in good hands and have touched us deeply.”

I feel so blessed that they are going to be enjoyed for many years by such wonderful people. Thank you to all who viewed my work, it was such a pleasure to share my gift with you all.

Weekend of Painting

Painting at Texas Discovery Gardens

Had a great weekend, full of painting. Saturday was so much fun, painting at the gallery, meeting and visiting with the visitors at the “Nature of Flowers” exhibit in the Gallery of Texas Discovery Gardens. I also went through the butterfly house and got some great photos. I spent time painting in the beautiful botanic gardens in Grapevine, had a great spot under a shade tree, met lots of people and enjoyed painting outdoors, what a beautiful place.  Sunday, after church I went over to my son and daughter-in-laws to paint on the nursery wall. Almost finished with the giraffe. I think Duncan is going to love it! Well, I have a full week of work ahead, best get to it.

Bluebonnets, Commissions, and FAR

Texas Bluebonnets

Texas Bluebonnets

The last couple of weeks have been really busy, I haven’t been able to paint very much, but have accomplished many other things. Spring brings an abundance of flowers to our area, one of which is the beautiful bluebonnet. Needless to say I have been taking many photos to utilize as reference images for future works. I definitely see a bluebonnet piece in my future.  I am also in the planning stage with a couple of commission clients. Commission pieces are always interesting and allow me to access an alternative creative side, not only must I love the piece, but most importantly, the client must. So now I look at the painting not only through my eyes, but also the eyes of my clients. I have also been working with the folks at Fine Art Registry, they selected my work to be featured this month. They did a fantastic job on the article and the work looks wonderful, check it out if you get a chance. I’m still working on my Clematis piece, haven’t added much, but I will be working on it at the Discovery Gallery this Saturday, from 10:00 until 1:00, in a little meet and greet the artist. Well, it’s back to work.

Hanging the exhibit on Sunday

Hanging the exhibit on Sunday

Last weekend was a flurry of artistic activities. We hung my exhibit “The Nature of Flowers”  at Texas Discovery Gardens Sunday before the opening on Monday the 22nd. After a ton of things to make it happen, Friday night was upon us, and the reception for the exhibit. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous, flashbacks of a Christmas Caroling party Karen and I had as kids, where no one showed up, except our best friend, kept raising its ugly head.  All the worry was for nothing, it was a “fantabulous” night. There was such a great turn out, I meet so many wonderful people, all of whom really loved my work. So many of them said the paintings brought smiles to their faces, they truly made them happy. Exactly what I was hoping for, each piece has been my attempt to capture the beauty created by the Master Artist.  I had such wonderful support from my family and friends. My husband seemed to be everywhere, helping out, my son in law took pictures, my mom got everyone to sign the guest book. There are just not enough thank you’s to show my appreciation to my family for their support. I also appreciate everyone who came out, I meet so many nice people. Elsie and her daughter, Penelope and her Dad, Alma and her husband, and so many others. Thank each of you for braving the traffic to spend the evening visiting and viewing my art. Saturday morning I did a little painting and visiting in the Gallery. What a joy to share my work and get the added bonus of meeting and speaking with so many different folks.  Enjoy the photos from my week.

Working on the Exhibit

Zebra Longwing and Penta

Zebra Longwing and Penta

I have been so busy working on the Exhibit for the Texas Discovery Gardens Gallery, at Fair Park. There are so many things to do, few of which involve painting. I have been working on registering my work on www.fineartregistry.com. What a great site; by using the FAR unique tamper evident tags , I can register each piece of my work that I have created. It gives me a permanent record, complete with photos, full description and tag number in the FAR official, secure database where it will remain forever. When I sell my work I can then carry out an online transfer of ownership of the piece. It has truly been a valuable tool for me as an artist. I have also been working on finishing up a painting, “Zebra Longwing and Penta”, getting prints, cards, etc. made for the gift shop. Putting together emails etc., etc. Lots to do, but what a great opportunity and a true blessing. Hope all can make it March 26, 2010 from 6:00pm til 8:00pm for the opening reception, the exhibit will be hanging from March 22 until July 31. Well back to work. Exhibition at the Gallery at Texas Discovery Gardens

Gallery Postcard

It feels like Christmas! Having my work on exhibit in the Gallery at Texas Discovery Gardens is so amazing. I feel so very blessed to be able to intertwine my art with such a beautiful venue that supports our environment. My work will be on exhibition beginning March 22 and ending July 31, 2010. There will be an Opening Reception for the Exhibit on March 26th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Gallery. Texas Discovery Gardens’ 7.5 acres offer a wonderful diversity of garden styles and botanical collections. The Gardens feature native plants and plant species from other regions of the world that are adapted to the challenging climate and soils of North Texas. Plants are also selected for their benefits in providing habitat for native wildlife, including butterflies, bugs, and birds. You can also enjoy more than 15 native species of butterflies in the Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium, as well as many new tropical butterflies. They offer many fun, hands-on environmental education programs for children and adults. What a great place to spend a Saturday enjoying art, flowers, butterflies and fun!
